SAP E-Mobility, which was initially an open-source project that has gradually been transformed into a standard SAP software, has enabled companies to run their charging networks. Over the past months, several features have been released, making the charging experience for our customers even easier. Our latest app, released in May 2023, is another milestone on the way to a sustainable framework for efficient charging operations.
Our new app “Define Charging Authorizations” allows administrators of charging networks to determine who is allowed to charge their vehicle at which charging stations. But wouldn’t it be easier if everyone was allowed to charge their vehicle at all charging stations within the same charging network?
There are multiple reasons for managing or limiting the access to certain charging stations. For example, if the number of vehicles exceeds the number of charging stations, you can prevent your charging infrastructure from being overloaded with charging requests. This is exactly where our new app comes in handy.
By reserving charging stations at your site for battery electric vehicles only, you can make sure there are always enough charging station available for them. Electric vehicles rely solely on electricity and need to be charged. Hybrid vehicles, on the other hand, can always be fueled at the gas station.
Distinguishing between vehicle types is not the only reason to define charging authorizations. You can also reserve charging stations for specific employees in a company. Technical staff members, for example, rely on their vehicles always being charged. They need to be able to intervene quickly if necessary. You can grant them the right to charge their vehicles at all charging stations. In addition, a special pool of charging stations could even be reserved for them.
How can charging authorizations be defined in our app?
It’s basically about defining where badges can charge. First, you create a charging setup. Then, you collect badges and EVSEs (electric vehicle supply equipment) in different groups. Finally, you determine charging permissions by authorizing certain badge groups for specific EVSE groups. To cut a long story short: if you want to charge your vehicle at a specific EVSE, your badge needs to be authorized there.
Managing Charging Authorizations
Several charging setups with various scenarios for charging permissions can be created in parallel for each tenant. Customers can easily activate or modify the charging setup that they require in a specific situation.
In conclusion, granting different charging rights is an advantage for our customers. Our app can cater for nearly all possible charging scenarios and therefore cover the most diverse customer requirements.
