Lyndsay was telling me how she’s switching accountant.
She knows she’s not getting the right help but finding a new one is driving her nuts!
They all rock up, tell her they’re different and then send in proposals that all look the same!
How does that work?
I’ve always liked Ms Doyle and it’s a pity she’s having trouble.
But if it’s right to change then it’s right to change.
A bad accountant is like a KGB sleeper agent.
Causes a lot of trouble and you don’t know about it until it’s too late!
What she needs most help with is day-to-day bookkeeping and to understand in simple terms how her company is performing and whether it’s doing what she thinks it is.
A regular meeting or screen-share call to look at the numbers together will be helpful and then there should be no surprises when they reach the year-end.
Nothing fancy, just ongoing, reliable help from someone who really understands her business.
Not much to ask, is it?
I don’t think so, but I’ve seen a lot of accountants make a real mess of things.
Too often the accountant doesn’t understand how the business works, so they use their standard bookkeeping approach and don’t realise it’s not a good fit.
The folks running the business don’t get the information they need.
Things can spiral out of control very quickly.
Switching accountant
Switching accountant is not something you do very often when you’re running a business so tread carefully but don’t stay with the wrong accountant simply because you don’t know how to change.
As a business owner, you have a part to play to make sure all the right information flows into your accounting systems. But, if you do your bit and you choose your accountant to suit your business then your accounting should quickly move to “automatic pilot” and your business will have the solid, reliable financial foundation it needs.
