Discover how they leverage the power of SAP Build Process Automation and SAP Build Work Zone in their customer projects! Prepare to be enlightened as Frederik Devinck, Lead Expert SAP Development, and Nathan Van Lombeek, Manager & Solution Lead, unveil their inspiring insights. Get inspired by their profound answers!

How are your customers doing when they need to extend their S/4HANA ERP?

Our customers will reach out to us with a specific use case, and we provide the various options that are available to them. For SAP S/4HANA specific this can be done through solutions via In-App or Side-by-Side extensibility, depending on the requirement.

What is different with SAP Build, is that the customer now also has the option to build the extension themselves, thus empowering the customer to support their processes and meet their goals. Also, it enables us to prototype new features and functionality quickly, making future improvements tangible early on.

How do you consider low-code generally at Delaware?

At delaware, we have been an early adopter of low-code with Mendix and PowerApps. We have a dedicated Low-code team with 35 people that is working on several type of projects and are fully convinced that low-code is here to stay. Low-code is making apps more accessible for everyone to create applications.

Last year (in 2022), we were already creating internal projects with SAP AppGyver but with the introduction of SAP Build things changed profoundly.

How did you start with SAP Build?

We were already using the former SAP Build prototyping tool to create prototypes for custom SAP Fiori apps. This had a major impact on making the proposed applications more tangible for our customers and resulted in a more aligned scope.

After the launch of the SAP Build portfolio on TechEd in November 2022, we immediately joined in with the new SAP Build solution. We set up an internal team to explore and review the new solution and bring it into our daily work at customers next to pro-code solutions.

What is SAP Build for in your portfolio?

Next to our pro-code offerings (SAP Fiori, CAP, ABAP…) we want SAP Build to be the first option when looking for custom extensions. Given that our customers can also use SAP Build increases involvement and project success.

Can you share an example on how SAP Build Process Automation helped in a customer project?

At customer Nipro, we use SAP Build process automation to create new GL accounts. Business users can create new GL accounts from their BTP launchpad using the "Create General Ledger Account" app. The biggest advantage is that it heavily reduces efforts from back-office people as this previously was done manually using mail and retyping it in SAP. With reviewer and approval functionalities in between, we also increase the level of data correctness.

For migrating SAP ECC authorization roles to S/4HANA roles, we are using an automated scenario created with SAP Build Process Automation to match the transactions with SAP Fiori apps. Supporting migrations to S/4HANA is a key business for us, where we deliver 10+ migrations in Belgium alone. With the automated role and application migration scenario, we are seeing a significant reduction in migration lead time and cost. This frees our dedicated migration consultants to handle more critical tasks.

Can you share an example on how SAP Build Work Zone helped in a customer project?

SAP Build Work Zone (standard edition) has helped our customers in many ways. At customer INEOS O&P we are combining SAP Logistics Business Network (LBN) together with SAP S/4HANA (on-premises) as a central entry point for the logistics team. And at delaware, we internally use SAP Build Work Zone as a central entry point for doing administration (for SAC, SAP S/4HANA Cloud, SAP SuccessFactors...). Our consultants and support people are using SAP Build Work Zone as a central point to access both SAP and non-SAP applications such as:

  1. The SAP ERP for our core business processes

  2. SuccessFactors for evaluations and more

  3. A multitude of custom built applications for timesheet registration, personal KPI’s

  4. Personal and company-wide reports

  5. And more

How do you plan to use SAP Build in the future?

We aim to use SAP Build in all our projects. Given that SAP Build is now also available to use for RISE & GROW customers (in addition with SAP Build Work Zone, standard edition) we have an amazing list of tools and services to help our customers becoming intelligent Enterprises and get ready for the future.

To achieve this, we’ve made plans to perform a mass certification event together with SAP this year. Through this we’ll be certifying dozens of consultants in one swift go, taking a big step towards our goal of 150 new certified BTP consultants in 2023.

We want to express our sincere gratitude to Frederik and Nathan for taking the time to participate in this interview. Their commitment to actively involving their customers with SAP Build solutions is truly admirable! We greatly appreciate their efforts and are excited to collaborate with them.
