In a Global deployment across the Globe, the logistics processes can span between different countries. E.g. A material may be produced in a country, but sold in a different country. In addition, we could have inter-company transactions where the order is created in one country, but is delivered from a different country.

SAP's Material Master holds the physical dimensions of a product on the basic data screen of the material master. This includes fields for Weight, Volume and Physical Dimensions of a product.

The challenge is if the same material needs to be transacted in countries that use Imperial Units for weight and Volume ( like the US ) and other countries that need this data to be presented on forms and on transaction screens in the Metric system of units.

There is no standard parameter to influence this difference and transaction and reports have to be adjusted based on the country of usage.

This requires a (custom ) parameter to be defined on the user profile and requires enhancements to ensure that the units displayed are based on the country of transaction on user screens so that they can engage with the customer to provide the Physical Dimensions in the standard followed in that  country.

This is an area of improvement that SAP can look into where the Plant / Sales Organization can be defined with a parameter so that the relevant transaction screens and reports can be displayed in the correct unit of measure. The transaction screens can also have a push button that can show the values between the Imperial and Metric system of units so that the users can easily switch between the units of measure if required.
