With our latest SAP Signavio Process Transformation Suite release in January 2023 we announced the general availability of the new SAP Data Warehouse Cloud connector for SAP Signavio Process Intelligence. With this, SAP Signavio customers using SAP Data Warehouse Cloud are now able to leverage its data connectivity, data integration, data wrangling and data modelling capabilities for process mining (please find a link to the documentation in the Appendix below).

Which are the main benefits? Check out the recent blog post from our colleague Thomas Bodenmueller-Dodek in which he explained how to accelerate process mining projects by exploiting the synergy between SAP Signavio Process Intelligence and SAP Data Warehouse Cloud.

In this post, we will see how to configure in SAP Signavio Process Intelligence a connection to SAP Data Warehouse Cloud. We will do this with a real example, by uploading a CSV file on SAP Data Warehouse Cloud into a table, leveraging on its data wrangling capabilities, and extracting the table in SAP Signavio Process Intelligence.

Setup the Connection

To setup the connection, we can access our SAP Signavio Process Intelligence and create a new SAP Data Warehouse Cloud Connection.

We can fill out the required fields

  • Username: fill with the SAP Data Warehouse Cloud database User Name

  • Password: will with the SAP Data Warehouse Cloud database User Password

  • Host: fill with the SAP Data Warehouse Cloud Host

and ensure that the three following parameters are correctly evaluated by default:

  • Port: 443

  • Database: “H00”

  • Extra Connection Arguments: “UseSSL=true”

How can we retrieve such information? We can do that by accessing our source SAP Data Warehouse Cloud space and clicking on the information button related to our database access user.

This Connection can be used to connect to all (and only!) data views deployed in your dedicated SAP Data Warehouse Cloud space.

Let’s now see how the connection works, by uploading a CSV file into SAP Data Warehouse Cloud.

In SAP Data Warehouse Cloud, we can access the Data Builder and select our space. We can select Import and Import CSV File to import our local file.

We can check for data issues that are automatically detected, so that we can take action accordingly, by leveraging on the data wrangling capabilities in SAP Data Warehouse Cloud. Here you can find the documentation https://help.sap.com/docs/SAP_DATA_WAREHOUSE_CLOUD/c8a54ee704e94e15926551293243fd1d/5c1e3d4a49554fcd...

For instance, you can change data types, or apply data transformation rules.

When we are happy with our transformations, we can deploy the table. This is not enough, though, as it is not a public object, yet. We need to wrap the table in a view that is exposed to be consumed.

The result is that the CSV file is available as table, exposed by a view, in our dedicated SAP Data Warehouse Cloud space schema.

We can now leverage on our SAP Signavio Process Intelligence connection to SAP Data Warehouse Cloud, to create a Source Data and a Process Data Pipeline on SAP Signavio Process Intelligence, as usual!

Summary

In this blog post, we have learned how to use the new SAP Data Warehouse Cloud connector available in SAP Signavio Process Intelligence.

In process mining, data acquisition and data management are one of the main challenges and time-consuming activities. The integration between SAP Signavio Process Intelligence and SAP Data Warehouse Cloud brings additional value – together with the integration between SAP Signavio Process Intelligence and SAP Data Intelligence Cloud – to support our customers in this direction, and accelerate process mining projects.
